walk cycles

Been practising my walk cycle which is alot more diffcult than it looks. For some reason the hands look massive and I cant get the feet to sycnronised I have had a few attempts but I think this will be a long process. I am also wanting to get the right rhymthn for this character what types of walk would he have?. I am keeping this walk cycle simple once again. Theres no alot of movement in the ankes so I cant bend them to make the ankles kick out only slightly. Rather than just having the knees that bend the whole of the leg and the ankle with have seperate movement. And I cant seem to get it out of the side angle when im rendering.

Rigging my character/development/reflection

So far Ihave rigged my character after finding the bones really hard to place. I have found bones the hardest part only because on the detail that has been involved whistle placing them. Now I can have the fun part which is to do the animating.
I have created three different emotions anger, happy and sad to show the versatility that my character has. Within each of the emotions for example:-
Happy- he will be either jumping or waving his hands,
Anger- making a snarl look on his face or having a closed fist and maybe stomping his feet, Sad- eyes dropped down and a sad look on his face with his mouth dropped down ( showing no teeth).
I have developed on each of the characters that I have designed, which have I found a learning process, even though keeping the design simple it wasnt simple enough. I went into alot of detail when it isnt needed so my final sketch was easier to build and animate, Espically when it comes to the walk pattern or making him either do facial expression or just a simple movement to convey any emotion.
Having been using Auto 3d Max for about 2 months I have learnt alot within the ten weeks that we had to produce a character expressing Anger, excitement,Desperation or Satisfaction, lasting 30 seconds. Create a storyboard in your journal a written character study.

working on bones

I have placed bones in his hands and arms. This has been bery complicated. Getting the right contraints and making sure the bones fits in the right place. But the symmetry still isnot working not to sure whats happening with that. I have place bones in all of the arms and now i have to place them in the legs.

working on facial features

I have cloned/copied my character adn then went into modify and then selected vertex. Then a box will appear when selected and then use the move tool and then you can move the mouth. And I named them indivdualy so they had there own independant name. So when it comes to animating I know which one im animating. And aswell trying to add symmetry on my character isn't working. So im just keeping it how it is and see what happens at the end. Hopefully it will work in th long run.

developing on character

Working on my character once again developing on this character each time I created the eyes and place teeth in( by extruding caping and bevel).Placed the materials on him and add skin to give texture to my character. Set the eyes on default on gave him a shine and gloss on his eyes and teeth, to add effect.
I'm also going to morph him and create three different emotions rather than just having one, to give versality and attract the audience. And hopefully after doing that it will come together and become a 30 second animation.
(Also I went adding the morhping tool you write something in the box and it will appear)

Geek in working in process

This has symmetry so it saves you rather than creating another arm it gives you another arm. I just have to work on the hands and place the bones and do the actual animation.

Working on auto 3d max its very complicated not knowing my way around the programme. I have bevel / brigde to create a mouth but it hasnt worked just done a mouth on an angle which I dont understand. Then I created a mouth and eyes with extrude and applied a few extrudes to them. Im going to attach the eyes when the bones are done. I have placed turbo smooth on the character, with eye sockets and mouth. Not sure how to put bones on the character either.

lip-synchronisation

lip-synch is s a short term for lip it making your characters lip movements match up with an actors vocal track. It is only part of what you will have to do with your characters face as expression comes from mouth and brow movement too ( actually body movement is very much to express emotion too but we are concentrating on the face.)

The brow ridge is the other area of the face that is really expressive, raising and lowering it as well the pinch that a frown will give added to mouth shapes will massively enchance the range of how much the face can communicate.
We have been working on a character we have to practise lip sync and we have a piece of audio and for the first 2 seconds i have created this mouth movement. Which fits well with the audio piece that we have been given. Lip sync is time consuming but, only choosing the vowels which was easier.

eyyeess

Practising eye angles and what i can achieve by just moving the eyelids down but on an angle and eyes looking heavy in the corner. This will make the character look angry. I have placed dummys and used the tool with two boxes on the top tool bar.

Geek

I have designed an easier character because the character that I first thought of a drawn was far to complicated for now in time. Im thinking of using it in the future. Keeping my idea simple and effective at the same time. The character is now going to be a smaller thing its going to have quite small legs. And will be representing anger. The eyes i designed in 3d max itself rather than creating it in paint and then importing it as a single file and then add the materials . I created a sphere and then went into the materials tool list and added the material to the eye. Which I found alot more easier and quicker. Ive had help from a student which I found very useful I know so much more than I did.
What I need to do now is create :-
mouth- bridge/bevel?
hands - select and uniform.
symmetry this helps you to create the rest of the body for you.
eye sockets bevel ( the red little dots then select it)

tutorial in auto3d max

I have been working on a tutorial using Auto 3d Max I found it very useful in the way of making the character move and the way it should move. Im trying to figure out the way his feet should move and his knees etc. Im finding it hard to figure it out and the whole design of the character.

gallery in Waterstones for tutorial

I have recently been to a gallery in waterstones by Nancy Farmer. I found her very unusual she had a varied pallette that she used. She had alot going on in her images. It was like her own concept of life and how she sees it. I think most of her ideas either come from fetish dolls or some kind of fetish. Her paintings didnt appeal to me there very surreal. But the amount of detail in each painting was amazing the depth etc the she creates really draws you into the painting.

graffiti designs 9

i took random bits from magazines that i read and either pencil over the design or used a pentel pen to create the thickness and the strong dominat lines.
Im trying to make this characters be expressive as possible. So choosing 'Anger' will represent alot of expression throughout the animation that will last 30 seconds. Im going to make his hands move to represent the anger the walk will hopefully convey my concept of anger.

Developing on character designs

I have designed a character that represents anger. Hes going to walk ( rigging) and he gets to the end of the walk he becomes angry. He alway has he is shoe laces untied which he gets angry about.

animation light seminar

This has omni light on it I placed it on the centre of the bulb and then it has attentenuation and then mucked around with the attentuation. Trying to place light rays from the light bulb itself and create a spot light on the tv.

Low Morale (http://www.lowmorale.co.uk/) is a series of animations portraying one man’s struggle to cope with the soul-sapping, will-to-live draining, life-force mugging, morale crushing experiences of work. And MTV have acquisitioned a number of the episodes for use in a new MTV-brand campaign.

After 4 million years of work, the music video for new British band NIZLOPI is finished. The video was commissioned back in January 2005, for the band's first single release - 'JCB'. As well as a music video, part of the project was to develop a micro-site and preview of the video to get some buzz going. The micro-site, http://www.jcbsong.co.uk/ did just that and has helped raise awareness of the band. The full video is now complete and available to view from the site, or direct from this page : www.jcbsong.co.uk/jcbvideo.asp

practising drawing

I have been using Richard Williams book 'The Animators Survival Kit'.

grafftti designs 8

I have been layering images over one another to create depth to the image. I have been experimenting with different images. Throughout me graffitti i have just done them black and white no colour. I need to experiment doing colour. Around this image there are more little designs that I have done.

Character designs for e sting4 which I created an animation for. I found doing animations very last minute I didnt benefit from. I wasnt happy with the end results.

reflecting two

I have found creating the eye alot more easier than i thought. I am getting used to using this programme now. (Its taken a while). Reflecting on what i have been through learning new things about 3d max. It has been a learning curve which I have benefited from and I think it will help me in the future. I need to start creating some designs for the animation that we have to create. Been looking at The Animators Survival Kit Richard Williams book which has been really useful in the sense of how to draw a character from different perspectives. And what should be included within a frame.

eye seminar

one render with turbo smooth added to effect and plcaed colour on the eyelids. Placed dummy on it to make the eyes be grouped together. ( to get them grouped select and linkand drag the line from eye to box).
Add materials cntrl M click on the four colurful balls. Use Blinn or Anistrophic these two are normally for eyes and give it shinnyness and depth. To add the material onto it ( show map in viewport click on the box with the blue bits on it or image with box on it drag and drop onto it.) 120 specular level, 60 glossy.

week 17 EYE

Create three cirlces the first one go on an 45 degree angle and do each of them. Then add colour to each of them.Created in paint and then placed into photoshop( add Gaussain Blur and noise to give the grainyness to the eye make it look more realistic). Then import into Auto 3d Max.

Stage one character build up

plan and produce a 30 second animation of one character expressing one of the following states: Anger,Excitement,Desperation or Satisfaction. Just by having a few gestures even by just moving youre hands can convey any feeling. I have chosen either anger or excitement which i think are the strongests ones that we have to choose from.

Holding Pattern ( writting for screen media)

This video was a piece of group work which consist of Hannah Berry, Eriko Hamada, mia coulter, Inacia fong Carolina We had to work from a script but you could take your own take on it. We did a film about animal welfare were a man kicks a duck and so on. So we did a woman sitting on a bench with a suit on counting money and then she kicks the duck. The film lasts about 3 minutes which I thought was long. And working with a group that I havent worked with before I found interesting but used it as a learning curve. I think we were the only group that took our own take on it.

reflection on ones self

I have found that even using auto 3d max on a regular basis now still dont no what im doing. I think it will take me awhile to get the jist of it. I think if i use it one day on and one day off it but working on my ideas i think it will work out really well, and aswell looking at tutorials reading the Richard Williams but, will help alot in a way just generally reading up on it. So it will help me in the long run.

'Organic Girl'
AV Seminar
I found this seminar really useful in the context of getting to alot more about story boarding in more detail. Theres alot of things that you don't think about when organising shots and so on. We had a task set during the seminar to discuss various genres within Western films and when we think of Western films what do think ?. I think that Western Films are stereotyped when you first think of western genres the first thing you think about is the stand offs, close up shots on their eyes, swinging doors the person stands in the door way and it's very atmospheric , sliding the glass across the bar makes that person feel bigger and alot more dominating. The music I find in western films are dominating and give the hole film atmosphere. The dialogue is always slow. Atmosphere is captured by the close-up shots and the stand offs were the goody and baddy mirror each other and pull there guns out. The hats that they wear aswell one person wear one bigger than the other does that mean that one person is more dominating than the other?.

Artist StatementThe streets are where art really lives. I slung dirt at night on the streets. Climbing and hopping fences seeking the perfect spot to scrawl my name. In and out quickly with grace of an ally cat night after night, killing spray paint cans. At each spot I left my name larger then life. This is how I learned how to be an artist, by doing throw- ups and tagging everything I passed. I am a Graffiti Bomber on and off the streets. Graffiti will always be the blood in my exploration with art and living. It keeps things flowing and alive. Graffiti is where I emerged from and where I never left and never will leave. People have asked me why I do not show my graffiti in my shows. This is not the streets. I keep it separated in a way. I could never recreate graffiti onto canvas. It would be lost.
The street pressures don't exist in my constructed environment. But fragments of it always exist in my art. From graffiti I have gravitated towards and educated in photography, typography and Graphic Design. All of these mediums can be seen in my artwork. I feel blest from God art did not become dormant with in me as I make my way through living but has become my way of life. Because essentially we all are beautiful creations of art, we all are critters of art.

I have chosen this you tube video which is done by the director Spike Jones which I found interesting and i find adverts the most appealing and interesting i would like to get into commericals.
The lighting that was used made the video come together. And the composition of the the person in the bed at the start .

The music that was used in video drew you into the frame and its catchy.

The sequence of the film makes it intriguing the way it flows and each of the images are thought about.

The focus in the film is about the trainers and the hole concept of advertsing the power of advertising.

The Colour its gradual in this film when he walks passed various different parts of the film you see the colour which grabs you into the videos keeps it eye catching. Which i think makes the video interesting.

I have chosen Animation as my pathway, which so far im enjoying it seems alot of work not just in lectures and seminars but, extra time working on your'e designs and ideas. Also working on sketch books keeping youre journals up to date.

We have been set a task to design a character in Auto 3d Max and render it only once put it on our blogs and comment on how it all went I havent used 3d Max before been practising on it. Theres alot to learn on it and about it. We have been practising on it in seminars and lectures which I have found useful.

London photo shoot and exhibtions

I recently went to an exhibition were a friend of mine Caroline Underwood was exhibiting her work at City and Guilds Art College in London. Her work is mixed media her paintings have alot of depth to them. Her drawings are based on landscapes and various other inspirational places and also nature. Within the Art College there were various different artists exhibiting their work. I then came across Juliaturcato her work mainly focused on Graffitti and mixed media. Her work is very inspiring and creative.

Holly has been exploring the tension both desirous as well as repulsive of promixmity, and conversely, the feeling of loss that is intensley personal and precise. She also likes to create a visual narrative as well as a dialectical relationship within the work.

Kiran Arora
His work reflects his own persona- a blend of eastern and western thought and culture. His current work seeks to explore the concept of cosmic unity of all phenomenon. His art work was very eye catching with the colours and the way his lines in his work drew you in.

Jennifer Nuttall
Her work works with child-like, which acted as a vechicle to express universal problems of human relationships. The problems of growing up the psychological problems within you're life. This work i found very disturbing and didnt like it.

Recently been on a photo shoot in London been taking photographs of 'Antony Gormleys' work which was scattered around southbank. He scattered 37 statues of himself around the place.

Eden Project

Recently been to the Eden Project there were various images on the wall. I thought i could use them as inspiration for animations.

graffitti designs 3

This design I have used the words to create controversy. The words saying ' beauty is the hardest drug ' so by smoking and keeping yourself thin by doing this. Hopefully with all these desgins im goin to create an animation with them. Also the words will have some movement within them aswell. All of these images i ahve kept simple just a few lines to represent the facial features and so on. Using fineliner i have found it you can create simple lettering by using different sizes of the nibs of the pens.

graffitti designs 2

Here i have made the word more dominating. Keeping to this controversial world were people have to be this size 0. I used the word envy having the desire to be like someone else.
